Project developed while at Barnbrook
An exhibition of art inspired and informed by the master filmmaker, Stanley Kubrick. It showcased 50 works by a range of artists and filmmakers, actors and musicians including Doug Aitken, Haroon Mirza, Michele Lamy and Sarah Lucas, and was curated by artist and musician James Lavelle. We designed the exhibition identity, marketing campaign, print collateral and display graphics.
The identity was built around a set of graphic eyes, referencing characters from Kubrick's films. The typographic makeup of the exhibition title was inspired by the distinctive typography used in the marketing material for Kubrick’s films.
When seen atogether, the exhibition title and eyes form an abstract face. Those elements were mixed and matched in different combinations to evoke a variety of Kubrickian themes, such as violence, sex, war and madness.
