The first retrospective exhibition for Febrik, a collaborative platform for participatory art and design research, opened in South London Gallery in May 2012. I was asked to design the graphic work and layout for the exhibition as well as artwork of a diagram that explains the methodology of Febrik. The exhibition unravels the politics of the right to public space and explores relationships between invented, inherited and modified play practices. The play practices of 19 children who took part in Febrik's workshops were also shown as a set of 19 play manuals.Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Typography2012 -
Narrating Beirut from its Borderlines is a collection of four small research studies that examine a number of the physical and immaterial borderlines that have come to define the contemporary geography of Beirut and its peripheries since 2005. I was commissioned to design the bilingual publication that features these research studies. The book design in itself highlights notions of borderlines and separation. The book was published by the Heinrich Böll Foundation.Editorial Design, Graphic Design, Typography2012 -
PASS/PORT is a set of 5 books in the form of passports that critically investigate the different parts of the travel process. The project attempts to represent the ways the travel document embodies the very essence of restriction rather than allows passage. Our political borders are as closed as ever at a time when our notion of the world is that of a global village or an open city.Graphic Design, Design, Editorial Design2011 -

Café Younes is a popular neighborhood café in Beirut. The roaster and the coffeeshop needed a rebranding, which was inspired by the café's own history as well as sign hand-lettering and electric typography of the Hamra region in Beirut. The rebranding project encompassed the corporate identity as well as all the in-store material and products sold by the coffeeshop.
This project was made while working at Mind the gap design and communication agency, and under their art direction.Art Direction, Branding, Graphic Design2012 -

Omar El Zénée was a satirical and political poet and lyricist who was active in the 1950s. A tribute concert to celebrate his heritage and introduce it to a new audience was held in Beirut. I designed the poster and the promotional material for the event. The visual is heavily influenced by revolutionary and constructivist posters to emphasize El Zeéné's revolutionary and rebellious personality.Advertising, Art Direction, Graphic Design2012 -

On collecting is a one-off 30-edition zine. I investigate the practice of collecting by showcasing 8 of my own collections in chronological order which started at the age of eight and have continued to the present time. The zine analyzes the different activities involved in collecting such as: number, method of acquiring, storing, and presenting the items. The zine also includes a categorization of these collections in order to achieve a better understanding of such a practice.Design, Editorial Design, Graphic Design2011 -
In order to better understand the relationship between losing something, getting lost, and gaining familiarity as a result of such loss, an exercise in psychogeography was undertaken. 100 letters written by myself and address to a stranger were made. Each letter was enclosed with a stamp and sealed. On the back it's written: "This is not a lost letter: open me, read me". The 100 letters were "accidentally lost" around the city of London in public and private places. The letter asked whoever reads the letter to get in touch by responding by mail or email to the writer. The letter asked for a story, a secret, or an object related to London. Out of a 100 letters "lost", a single response was received. The experiment was documented in a book titled "This is not a lost letter".Graphic Design, Editorial Design, Design2011 -
This book is the visual summary of the work undertaken during the first phase of the master degree. It begins with a formal investigation of the triangle as a basic geometric shape. A series of visual experiments are used as bases to investigate the triangular relationship between the self, the home, and the city. At a later stage in the study, the triangle itself becomes the site of investigation and of play. The sides of the triangle represent connections that are deconstructed and manipulated to achieve a better understanding of the relationship between getting lost in the city and find meaning in such an act.Graphic Design, Editorial Design, Design2011 -

This book was my final project during my BA studies at the American University of Beirut. It takes the form of a Lebanese political party's annual report regarding a project aimed to boost the party's loyalty within a Beiruti neighborhood. A governmental decision aimed at prohibiting political posters sparks a "rebranding" of the urban space with the corporate identity of the party. The book documents the research of four main targets of the rebranding as well as the implementation phase.Graphic Design, Design, Editorial Design2011 -
